Frequently Asked Questions
When should I get a massage?
Anytime is a wonderful time for a massage! You don’t have to wait until you are stressed or in pain to get a therapeutic massage. Preemptive care is more beneficial than waiting until you are already trapped in a pain cycle because it can help prevent pain and discomfort. Consistency is key with massage - the frequency is up to the client’s needs. Some clients benefit the most from a weekly massage appointment, while others maintain their wellness plan with a monthly appointment. Regular massage is a great way to cope with day to day stressors, whether physical or emotional, and to work out the trigger points caused by daily life.
When should I not get a massage?
There are several contraindications that must be mentioned for receiving a massage. If you have any of the following, massage is not recommended without a physician's note:
Fever
Any type of infectious disease
Systemic infections
Severe cold
Fracture, bleeding, burns, or other acute injury
Liver and kidney diseases
Blood clot
Pregnancy-induced diabetes, toxemia, preeclampsia/eclampsia
High blood pressure (unless under control with medication)
Heart disease
While taking antibiotics
If there is any question at all about whether a massage is recommended or not, the best thing to do is call and discuss the situation with me. As a medical massage practitioner, I am extremely conscientious about taking the precautions necessary to prevent making an underlying medical condition worse. The Initial Client Intake Form that is filled out on your first visit will cover all the necessary information that I will need for the massage to proceed. I welcome all questions regarding massage!
Are there different prices for different types of massage?
I do not charge a different price for Swedish, Deep Tissue, Sports, Pregnancy, Medical, or NMT modalities. I have found that most massages are best done using multiple modalities to help the client reach their goals for the session.
Do you accept insurance?
I do not accept insurance. It is very difficult for individual practitioners to accept insurance without further staff to manage the paperwork and communications necessary to work with insurance companies. However, I can provide a superbill with the information regarding your massage sessions to you so that you can file for reimbursement.
What forms of payment do you take?
Cash, check, card, or payment apps (PayPal, CashApp, Venmo)
What is your cancellation policy?
A 24 hour notice is required if you cannot make it to your appointment. Late cancellations will accrue a $25 fee if the appointment slot cannot be filled. No shows will accrue a $50 no show fee. However, I understand that life happens and unavoidable situations arise, these will be determined on a case-by-case basis.
What do I get if I refer a friend?
I have a referral program where, if you refer a friend and they make an appointment, you receive $5 off of a massage! This will not require a gift certificate, but will be added to your account as credits. You can use your credits immediately or you can save them for future use.
I have a gift certificate. How do I use it?
Just present the gift certificate at the time of your massage!
Do gift certificates expire?
Unfortunately, gift certificates DO expire. The good news is, you have six months from the time of purchase to use it. There’s no reason to wait to get a massage that has already been paid for!
